All coaches, Head and Assistant (anyone helping coach the team on the bench or in practice), must be properly certified and have the appropriate module(s).

Age specific modules were supposed to be ready by Sept. 1st.

Coaches of split season (Midget, etc.) must be properly certified by October 31, 2012.

1st year as a coach for CHC hockey team

  • Need Level 1 cert and age specific module (regardless of Level) – can coach Mite, Sq, PW, Ba, Midget
  • If coach only going to coach Mites, need to just keep Level 1 current – retake when it expires (1 year) – (only need to retake the Mite Module if they announce you need to)

2nd year as a coach for CHC hockey team

  • If in your second year as a coach you are going to now coach a team higher than Mites, you need to get a Level 2 certification, and the age specific module (Sq, PW, Ba, Midget)
  • If coach only going to coach Mites or Squirts, need to just keep Level 2 current – retake when it expires (1 year) – (only need to retake the Mite and/or Squirt Module if they announce you need to)

3rd year as a coach for CHC hockey team

  • If in your third year as a coach you are going to now coach a team higher than Squirts, you need to get a Level 3 certification, and the age specific module ( PW, Ba, Midget)
  • This coach can coach Mites, Squirts, PW, Bantam, Midgets, but will need to keep Level 3 current– retake when it expires (every 2 years) (only need to retake the Mite, Squirt, PW, Bantam and Midget Modules if they announce you need to)

Level 4 certification does not expire, and why many coaches choose to get a Level 4 certification.

EXCEPTIONS!

  • All Tier I and Tier II Midget coaches are now required to have Level 4 certifications.
  • All Tier I Bantam coaches are now required to have Level 4 certifications

Therefore: If a coach is currently a LEVEL 3 coach and is coaching a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Midget team or a Tier 1 Bantam they must take a LEVEL 4 clinic.

Note: Only need to retake the age specific module that you are coaching if an announcement comes out that is has changed a lot and everyone needs to retake. IF YOU TOOK AGE SPECIFIC MODULE LAST SEASON DO NOT NEED TO RETAKE THIS SEASON!

Note from CHC:
Last year there was much confusion which ended in numerous Temporary Cards. This year Temporary Cards will only be for extraordinary circumstances not misunderstandings. Please keep in mind that the deadline for Temporary Cards is December 31, 2012. However the deadline for Split Season teams is October 31, 2012. It is the job of the Associations to check to make sure that their coaches are properly certified and have taken the appropriate modules. You can check a coach's certifications and modules taken on the USA Hockey website by clicking the “online coaches certification list” tab in the coaches section.
